Join us in welcoming Katerina Momiroska. Katerina is an LSW who has a background in working with children and their families. And she might be the right fit for you. We've asked, she's answered. Let's get to know her better.
What makes you smile? Why? -My daughter. Experiencing life with her and seeing it through her eyes has healed the little girl in me. Everything is amazing , and new and exciting in her eyes, and experiencing day to day like that makes me beyond happy and puts a smile on my face. Seeing her be an amazing , kind , loving and silly friend to others and how others are drawn to her energy and want her presence makes me smile every day .
What emotion do you think is most difficult to express?-Loneliness, because I feel it is often masked as anger, or putting on a mask of being happy. There is stigma with expressing feeling lonely and wanting to be loved and cared for.
Coffee or tea?-Definitely coffee ( teachers run on coffee )
How do you build trust in clients?-By creating a space where they feel heard, valued and worthy of love, acceptance and growth. Listening and also allowing them to see me as a human first , a therapist second. Making connections and celebrating their successes, and the willingness to be vulnerable and make a change.
If you could have dinner with anyone, whether they are dead or alive, who would it be?-My dad, who pushed me to be the best, but also to never forget to have fun, have amazing experiences and laugh at myself.
What is your favorite childhood memory? Why? -Growing up we traveled every summer. My parents would decide on a country ( Europe) to visit ,pack up the car, and we would drive through the night to our destination . At the time of no fancy hotels and Airbnb, we would rent apartments from local families and immerse ourselves in their daily routines while becoming a part of their families. This has taught me to always have an adventurous spirt ,be curious about others and also accept others who are different than me.
Did you have a role model when you were growing up? Who was it? Why?-Yes, my dad. While he had his flaws , he made sure that his family was always taken care of and came first. He taught me to be strong but loving , to be kind but firm, to be a hard worker but also remember to have fun and most importantly he taught me the value of being outside and how this affects relationship and mental health. Daily walks, or just a backyard play, makes a world of a difference to our mental health.
