Sara Jones, MA

We asked Sara some questions to get to know her better and to provide you with insight on the therapist you're getting when you're meeting with her.

What was the last book you read that had an impact? What were your thoughts on it?  I hate you- Dont leave me by Jerold Kreisman Hals Straus. I am very interested in the BPD diagnosis and this book gave me a deeper understanding of how BPD presents and therapeutic techniques to better help my clients.

If you could be an insect, which would you be? A Butterfly. Butterflies go through hard life transitions and emerge into beautiful creatures. They are such beautiful metaphors for resilience- life can get difficult, ugly, and messy but you can still make it through and experience the beauty of life again.

What is the most recent photo saved to your phone? Why did you take the photo? I took a picture of my kids in the city after the kids marathon. I took it to remember not only that my daughter ran in the marathon but that her brothers were there to support her and cheer her on. It's a beautiful relationship my kids have and that is what I think when I look at that picture.

Coffee or tea? NEITHER- Dr Pepper at 8am

What emotion do you think is most difficult to express? I think that people struggle with expressing love. It is such a vulnerable emotion to express. People say I love you but when it comes to being vulnerable and expressing their thoughts and feelings it can be a scary and difficult thing to do.

How do you build trust in clients? Offering a nonjudgmental and empathic environment is the first step in building trust with clients. I also think that being my genuine and vulnerable self while maintaining professional boundaries is beneficial in also building trust.

What is your favorite childhood memory? Why? Our outer banks beach vacations. Growing up every summer we would go to the Outer Banks for the fourth of July. I took my close friends and it was a very memorable experience. Looking back over my childhood years I would say that the beach vacations were some of my most fond memories.
